CONTEXT

A PROJECT FROM CREATIVES, FOR CREATIVES.

For 10 weeks, my group and I designed and produced a project from initial concept to final visual direction and execution. The idea stemmed from a shared feeling of burnout at the tail end of our junior year of design school.

THE CHALLENGE

How might we enable creatives to reconnect with motivation and inspiration through small, low-effort moments of creativity?

PROBLEM SPACE

We saw an opportunity to help creatives overcome burnout and find motivation through effortless and quick “micro-dosing” of creativity.

SOLUTION

INTRODUCING JOT IT

A creative playground for low-pressure expression, habit-building, and growth—on your own terms, in your own bubble.

01 BE CREATIVE EACH DAY

Choose from three different creative prompts to challenge your imagination in a quick, low-pressure way.

DOODLE IT - A written daily-changing theme.

BLOB IT - Randomly generated abstract blob shape.

CONNECT IT - Connect all the dots in one stroke.

02 JUMPSTART CREATIVITY

Whether it’s a nudge from a friend or a sporadic alert, we’ll motivate you to exercise your creativity!

03 To Share & Explore

Pan around to see you and your friends’ creations come to life in an open, interactive space.

04 Reflect on Your Journey

Look back on your creations to either see a past day’s playground or complete the prompt.

05 Personalize Messages

Hold down on your favorite doodles to save them in your device’s sticker sheet.

EXPERIENCE PILLARS

The "Speak Your Mind" workshop was conducted as a small-scale session aimed at exploring participants’ perspectives on creative expression.

75% of our survey respondents reported feelings of stress and performance anxiety when creating art or work.

In order to facilitate creativity we should focus on…..

COMPETITIVE ANALYSIS

We conducted market fit research and analyzed our direct competitors to understand our position in the market. Through this process, we identified a clear gap: there is currently no habit-building platform specifically focused on helping people draw and practice creativity every day within that niche.

DIFFERENTIATOR

POSITIONING MATRIX

On our positioning matrix of direct and inspirational competitors, we identified that we wanted to combine sporadic, spontaneous notifications like BeReal with the habitual, routine-based incentives seen in NYT Games.

However, we found that no existing app successfully brings all of these elements together in one cohesive experience.

UI LIBRARY

The visual design is informed by the tactile, analog experience of notebooks, personal journals, and everyday doodles.

TAKEAWAYS & NEXT STEPS

  • Work with engineers to build the entire app

  • Add more activities

  • Refine seasonal playground themes

  • Explore community building features

  • Conduct real user testing and research
